Department Leader: Daniel Perera

At Nuneaton Academy, we are committed to providing the best possible education for our young people through high quality teaching and learning. We aim to create equity through knowledge – students are exposed to the powerful information they need to succeed and thrive in life, regardless of background.

The MFL department aims to create and develop enthusiastic and independent learners of French. We are committed to establishing a learning environment that encourages students to feel confident about taking risks and developing informed opinions about the world around them. Our curriculum focuses on learning, rather than teaching; we want students to reflect on and enhance their skills, ask questions and enjoy challenge.  We aim to encourage students to become spontaneous in their speaking.  There will be opportunities to independently extend their skills beyond the classroom and therefore, prepare for life beyond Nuneaton Academy.

French is widely recognised for the depth and breadth of knowledge and skills it develops in those who study the course, and a good grade at GCSE is seen as evidence of students’ commitment to learning, their ability to overcome challenges, and their interest in the international world.  An improvement in their understanding and use of the English language is also a frequent feature of students learning a foreign language. A motivated and progressive approach to learning leads to greater fluency and confidence in self-expression, and builds the foundations necessary for the successful study of French at A-level and beyond.
